I'm Zach! I work with people across the lifespan, typically from around the age of eight onwards. Commonly, people who make an appointment with me are dealing with some sort of struggle or concern, whether it be of a personal, emotional, relational, existential, familial, historical, or occupational nature. I like to think that my style is a bit easy going and laid back, but I will let you be the judge. I don't have any interest in projecting a sanitised or 'clinical' vibe; I think I would immensely dislike that as a client - so I aim for relaxed, conversational, and down to earth.
You don't have to be in crisis to sit down with a psychologist. In fact, a lot of the time it's better to make an appointment before things hit boiling point. People often struggle with an issue or with distress for over a decade before seeking support.
When you make an appointment with Zach, there's no lock-in subscription. The research is pretty clear - clients who like and trust their therapist get much more out of therapy than clients who do not. If you're not feeling it after the first appointment, let me know. I'll explore some alternative options that might be a better fit for you.
Loss and grief
Anxiety and depression
Emotional dysregulation and anger-related regulation concerns
Thought spiralling and stress
Challenges related to men's health and masculinity
Occupational stress and burnout
Social and relationship concerns
Adjustment to difficult life circumstance or changes
Trauma
Self-image and self-esteem
Guilt and shame
Parenting difficulties
Please note: Zach typically accepts referrals for children aged above eight years of age. If you are a parent seeking support for a child younger than eight years, please get in touch and we can discuss options. Additionally, Zach does not typically accept referrals for a primary presenting concern related to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in children, but please reach out to discuss options if you believe Zach may be a good fit for your child regardless.
Zach began studying psychology at UQ in 2007. After completing his undergraduate degree, Zach wanted to get some practical counselling experience straight away, so he got a job working as a counsellor at the Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre in Wacol. In 2012, Zach was released from prison to begin his Masters of Applied Psychology (Counselling Psychology) at UQ. It was during this degree where Zach discovered his true passion in psychology - working with people affected by loss and grief. Under the supervision of Associate Professor Judith Murray, Zach's research explored the way in which people utilise social media when grieving.
After gaining his psychologist registration in 2013, he worked clinically for a disability employment service, a not-for-profit child trauma service, a high school, and a theatre company. In 2014, Zach paused his clinical work to commence a PhD in Clinical Psychology at Griffith University, with his research exploring the impacts of social media on health, and the way in which social media has been utilised as an adjunct to more traditional healthcare interventions. In 2018, he returned to clinical work, and took up a consultant position at Lilley Place in Indooroopilly, where he continues to work with both child and adult clients. In 2022, he also began consulting out of The Long Gallery Psychologists, a second private practice, in Moggill.
In addition to his clinical work, Zach has a genuine passion for teaching the next generation of psychologists. He has been a sessional academic at UQ for over a decade and has taught in the masters programs at UQ since 2017. In 2025, he took up a permanent position as a Teaching Associate in the School of Psychology at UQ. Zach currently teaches counselling, therapy skills and psychopathology in the first year of the Master of Clinical Psychology and the Master of Psychology degrees at UQ. He is a board-approved supervisor, and holds endorsements in both Clinical Psychology and Counselling Psychology.
